Burn The Fat - Calorie Cutting Tips & Ideas Part 2
In this article, we're going to continue some calorie cutting ideas that you can implement right away. Here are five more tips that anyone can use:
1. Mix Veggies into Your Side Dishes
Mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, these side dishes often make a meal - but they are also high in calories. In order to have the pleasure of starchy sides without the calorie bomb, try mixing them with vegetables. Try adding some frozen mixed veggies to your rice as it cooks, or mashing carrots with your mashed potatoes, or drizzling steamed zucchini slices with lemon, salt, and a touch of olive oil, and tossing them with pasta. You can feel satisfied with half of the starch that you would otherwise need, while improving the overall flavor of your side dishes.
2. Limit Empty Calories from Drinks
A tall glass of soda can add hundreds of calories to your diet, without helping to satisfy you at all. In fact, eliminating a single 20-ounce bottle of cola a day will lose you 25 pounds over the course of a year. Of course, that doesn't mean that you have to consign yourself to plain old water, either. Some ideas for fun, low calorie drinks include:
• Adding slices of lemon, lime, orange, or cucumber to your water
• Mixing a splash of your favorite juice with sparkling water.
• Making iced tea from flavored, as well as plain, teas. Peach, blueberry, lavender, and green teas make excellent and unusual cold drinks.
• Freezing juice into ice cubes and adding it to sparkling or still water.
3. Don't Skip Meals
Skipping a meal may seem like a great way to reduce calories, but you end up leaving yourself so hungry that you overeat at your next meal, losing most of the benefit. Plus, going hungry can send your body into starvation mode, slowing down your metabolism and causing you to burn fewer calories. It's a better idea to eat at regular intervals throughout the day, preferably before you become ravenous.
4. Brush Your Teeth
No, this is not a dental hygiene tip thrown in for fun. If you start to get hungry between meals or in the evening, try brushing your teeth instead of reaching for food. Most people have an aversion to eating when their teeth are clean, which can outweigh your cravings. Plus, the minty-fresh toothpaste taste is refreshing and pleasant, distracting from thoughts of hunger.
5. Eat Purposefully
Too often, we eat without thinking about what we're doing. We throw chips into our mouths while watching television, wolf down food as we're driving home, and so on. Try to make eating purposeful. Think about the flavors and textures that you are experiencing as you consume your food. Take your time. Eating more slowly gives you the chance to notice you're full before you become totally stuffed.
